NOMO-RE Losing For Sox
After dropping a couple of games, the bean-fest known as the Devil Rays / Red Sox rivalry ended with more fireworks. After a couple of hit batters, both managers were tossed along with their pitchers. What upsets me, however, is when pitchers throw above the waist or shoulders of the batter. That’s highly dangerous and if throwing at batters isn’t un-classy enough, going head hunting is just pure trash. Incase you didn’t realize, I’m referring to the incident when Devil Rays pitcher Lance Carter threw a ball at David Ortiz. This, after Manny Rameriz was nearly tagged by a pitch from Carter just earlier. Fortunately, after Francona protested to the umpires a bit regarding the pitch that nearly hit Manny, Rameriz responded with a solo home run. The next batter was Ortiz and that’s when things got way out of control.
Eventually, 6 people were tossed (Tampa Bay: Lou Piniella, Lance Carter, Dewon Brazelton | Red Sox: Terry Francona, Bronson Arroyo, Trot Nixon)
In any event, after getting enough runs to win it off from Hideo Nomo, the Sox blasted it open in the 8th inning with a grand slam and a total of 6 runs. The game ended at 11-3 with the Sox thumping out 13 hits including a grand slam and a home run both from Manny and Ortiz… sometimes I hate to say it, but I told you to watch out for that offense.
