Vive Arroyo! Vive Arroyo!
Nothing settles my stomach a bit more than when someone steps up big for the team when they need them to. Surprisingly, this is one time in many that Bronson Arroyo has for the Sox. I’ll admit that I think Bronson is one of the most underrated pitchers in the American League. Next to Santana, this guy has the longest loss-less streak of a starter in the American League, and his performance last night was commanding once again.
Unfortunately, with the pitching situation as bad as it is for the starting rotation right now, we’re still going to lose Arroyo for atleast one start due to the Tampa Bay extravaganze. As it stands now, he’s expected to be suspended for 6 days, forcing him to miss a start.
It was, perhaps, equally rewarding to see the offense step up as well after hitting .260 as a team with 25 home runs and 12 stolen bases in April. Johnny Damon continue to be on fire, with three hits and one of them being a home run. He also had a double and drove in 4 runs on the day. Kevin Youkilis is back up at the majors and apparently back to his form as he had three hits and drove in 2 runs… Welcome back Youk!
ON NOTE: With his stellar performance, Arroyo lowered his era to 3.69
Now the question, do we start winning again? When’s Clement going to be consistently good?
