Sox Drop Opener In Cold Detroit — More Worries…
Jeremi Gonzalez pitched better than expected, some would say. Unfortunately, his pitching wasn’t what really determined the outcome of this game. The Sox offense managed to only score 3 runs off from the Tigers. When Gonzalez left it was a tied game, 3-3. Once Gonzalez left the game, things went wrong in a hurry.
For beginners, Blaine Neal and Alan Embree (who I thought was sick) pitched in a close game in the cold and gave up a combined 5 runs. But that’s the way the pitching has been lately, and like everyone I’m hoping the pitchers find their groove soon.
The offense, aside from Johnny Damon who had another 3 hit night, could not capatilize on opportunities. They produced 3 runs in the third inning and that was it. And, even at that they should have done more damage in the third as the bases were loaded and there were no outs. The fourth inning was another situation with the bases loaded that led to Trot Nixon flying out to short center, Manny striking out, and Ortiz grounding out to 2nd base. This offense that’s suppose to be outscoring the rest of the league is still in cruise control. Forget the pitching coming up big the next few weeks to a month, the offense just needs to start showing up.
