All Hail Halama! Foulke Remains Foul
Ok, Mirebelli came up BIG with his grand slam, ultimately putting the game away in the fifth inning, but Halama delivered big time for a reliever. he went 5 strong innings and recorded the win, the much needed win for the Red Sox.
Mantei and Timlin were excellent out of the pen to preserve the win for Halama. And as I’m sure I don’t need to mention this since it won’t do him any good, Foulke continues to struggle. He gave up a home run to the first batter he faced, Marcus Thames. Luckily the Sox had enough wiggle room for him to settle down and record his 5th save on the year.
This is growing more worrisome on me. Foulke’s ability to shut it down in the 9th inning is becoming a real and serious issue. He has a few blown saves already on the year, and I can’t recall one strong close that he’s had yet. That is, with his 5 saves it seems he’s given up runs but was fortunate enough to have a large lead to recover and preserve the win. What’s your take?

Foulke gives up a home run as well as fuel his critics even more. First of all I would like to express to time and practice Thames put in this year so he could get lucky enough to put the bat on a ball that was eye level. And then get enough of hit to hit it out. Maybe next time when it’s a 0-2 count with no runners Foulke will just have to throw one over the back stop, just to waste a pitch. That’s the way his season is going so far. But he’ll get it together. Keep Faith.

Ah, keeping faith. Yes, I do think Foulke will get it together, I just wonder how many games back we’ll be by then. Whether Foulke has to throw one to the backstop or not, isn’t the telling tell. To this point, the means have not justified the ends, or vice versa.
