Clement Improves To 4-0, Yankees Lose
I’m torn right now. I’m not sure if I want to write more about Clement throwing a gem and the Sox coming alive to blast 7 runs, or to harp on the Yankees a bit for losing 8 of their last 10 and having the worst start in franchise histroy since 1966. The Sox pounded the slipping Mariners without Edgar Renteria or Johnny Damon, as they both had nights off. With Clement throwing like he should every game, he only yielded just 5 hits and 1 unearned run to lower his ERA to 3.35, while walking 1 and striking out 6 over seven innings… Unfortunately, I still have some worries about Clement, but I’m sure they will fade if the team keeps putting up W’s when he’s hurling.
And for the Yankees…. How sweet it is! My guess, they just don’t know how to handle last year’s historic loss. With all the money in the world, with A-Rod and Jeter, with Mo Rivera and the Big Unit, with BALCO and old age, they can’t pull it off. Torre must be beside himself and probably pondering retirement. How long can one person take working with Steinbrenner, especially when the largest payroll in the history of the game is only getting you a tie for last place? Unless they really turn it around, which is possible but will require the hand from God himself, it doesn’t look good or easy for the Bombers for awhile. No one wants to pick up their overloaded salaries for over the hill players, and their farm system is essentially non-existent. Ah, remember the days of Petite, Posada, Williams, Rivera, even Chuck Knaublach? Yes, distant memories indeed.
