Manny Mishap, but Kevin Millar Gets First Homer En-route To Topping Athletics

Manny Rameriz was struck by an 81 mph pitch in the side of the head in the first game of the series with the A’s. Although there are no symptoms of a concussion, the Sox will be monitoring Manny Rameriz.

On the brighter side of things, the Sox picked up a 13-5 victory and Kevin Millar got his long over-due, first home run of the season. Millar, like many of the Red Sox, has been in an early season slump. In fact, this game generated the most runs the Sox have ran across all year. Millar is hitting .257 but went 2-4 in this game. Millar has always hit better at Fenway than on the road. Interestingly enough, Millar’s on-base percentage is still .370 despite the sub-par batting average.

Perhaps we’ll start seeing Millar produce Millar numbers. He is on pace to exceed his RBI total of last year, with 84 runs batted in this year, should he play the same number of games that he did last year.

Johnny Damon remains on fire by extending his hitting streak another game. On note, Damon has 11 multiple hit games in this 15 game hitting streak. He’s batting .373.

Veteran pitcher Tim Wakefield picked up his fourth victory to improve his record to 4-1. Wakefield went six innings, giving up seven hits, three runs, five walks
