And The Sox Came Back, The Very Next Day
After losing big time yesterday to the Mariners, the Sox returned with a strong pitching performance (nothing spectacular) from Wade Miller to defeat the Mariners 6-3. With the exception of the last 2 runs, which happened to be back to back homers by Richie Sexson and Raul Ibanez , Miller threw well through 5 and 2/3 innings. The unfortunate part is that Miller shouldn’t have gone back out in the 6th. His last start he threw 91 pitches and he went into the 6th inning with a pitch count of 92. I have to disagree with Francona on that call.
The Sox offense is starting to come alive and I’m hoping the pitching and defense will continue to improve. The Yankees appear to have turned things around and we should expect them to be knocking on our doorstep very soon. Perhaps our honeymoon alone is now over and we have to really step it up.
Wells will be returning and I expect he will be in top form. As most fans know, the last time he came back from the DL he was nearly unhittable.
NOTE: Trot Nixon put the game away with his 8th career grand slam. Manny Rameriz hit his 399th Home Run and Johnny Damon’s hitting streak came to an end, as Damon went 0-5 at the plate.
