Arroyo Finally Loses, Sox Offense Continues To Lack

It was only a matter of time before Bronson Arroyo would lose a game, after all, he did go 18 games without a loss. I’m sure the extra day of rest due to his suspension allowed him to be a bit rusty out of the gate. The lack of offensive production and continually leaving runners on base is the most frustrating from the 6-1 loss to the Blue Jays.

“We need to win [Thursday],” Johnny Damon said about the series finale against the Blue Jays, who have taken the first two games of this three-game set. “It’s a must-win. We need to get back to that stage where every game is a must-win instead of saying, ‘Oh, we’ll be OK,’ because it’s a different year. We need to start looking at every game like we have to win.”

“There are four teams in the thick of things now,” Damon said. “Two weeks ago there were only two teams in the thick of things. We just let Toronto back in, and New York is climbing. We have to start doing something.”

It’s a very good point, that this team is not last year’s team. As much as the team is the same, you’re still without Schilling at his peak or Pedro going every 5 game. The guys that are there are a little bit older, a little bit slower. It’s crucial that they start winning much more consistently or they will find themselves back 8 or 9 games at the All Star break.
