Mid-Year Award Review
Every year I list who I think will be the MVP, CY, ROY and MOY. Then again after the season is over I do it again just before the awards come out. Last year I was 5 out 6. Buck Showalter wasn’t my AL MOY. Well here it goes.
AL MVP: Vlad Guerrero LAA- Without Vlad the Impaler the Angels are chasing the Rangers. He doesn’t have the supporting cast, so he just does it all himself.
AL CY: Mark Buehrle CWS- He’s forcing people to acknowledge that he’s one of the best in the game. He gets the nod over Roy Halladay because his team will contend late in September maybe even October.
AL ROY: Chris Young TEX- 8-4, 3.33 ERA, 7.74 K/per 9. No reason to think that it will be different the rest of the year. At 6′10″ maybe Texas found someone who can pitch in Arlington.
AL MOY: Ozzie Guillen CWS- His unorthodox style and being the players manager makes his team win. Also putting a 26 - 5 beating on your own division looks pretty good.
NL MVP: Derrek Lee CHC- At the pace he’s going he will ellipse every career best stat he’s had by a ton. He will also keep the Cubs in wild card contention all year.
NL CY: Dontrelle Willis FLA- The ” D- Train” is gonna keep on rollin’ all year. He’s shown flashes of stardom before, but now he’s a three year veteran. He knows what he’s got to do to remain on top.
NL ROY: Willy Taveras HOU- With 18 stolen bases, 41 runs and a .281 average thus far, Taveras is having a good first year. His 1 error in 169 chances aren’t bad either.
NL MOY: Frank Robinson WAS- A team with no big superstar but has the passion of their manager. Robinson will bring them a long way, but will fall short. The writers will give him a break and the award since baseball is back in DC.
