Boomer Booms His Way Out - Foulke, Embree Throw Shutouts
Anyone could see David Wells was shooting his mouth off quite a bit, and although I agree with him on the reasoning, he should have shut it a bit earlier. However, the 2nd base umpire should have never tossed him, especially after he had shut his mouth and turned away from the umps. I truly think it was a matter of Chris Guccione (the 2nd base umpire) having a power fit and wanting to abuse his power, especially since he was more than willing to go face to face with Wells right after he ejected Boomer to his back. What’s amazing is that the home plate umpire had already turned and went back to the plate, he was done arguing with Wells and for some strange reason, Guccione on a power-kick, decides to give Wells the boot. Totally ridiculous and I think the umpires have been more than willing to eject people this year. Bad taste, brother - poor call!
On the plus sides of the game, Rameriz remains himself, Mueller comes through yet again, and Embree and Foulke pitch shutouts in their 2 innings of combined work (Mike Timlin got the win for his 3rd of the year). Seeing Embree get some time in without giving up a run is very positive, Foulke - even better! They have lowered their ERA’s a bit and should have them below 5 by the end of the year
hopefully!
ON NOTE: Bill Mueller hits over .500 with the bases loaded this year.
