New Episode, Manny Returns To Being… Manny?
First off, I’m not blaming Manny for the last last night (despite a very costly error and some strike outs). I don’t hold it against Wakefield either. I don’t even hold Millar accountable, despite the fact that he is struggling tremendously (he did get a hit and a RBI). The Sox as a team had 2 errors and 9 hits. The Angels had 0 errors, and 15 hits. Oh ya, they also had 13 runs!
The unfortunate thing of last night, is I think, at least with me anyway, that when Manny performs on the field and at the plate the way he did in the first 5 innings, it sends shrivels around the team. Again, watching a player break-off and appearingly head into outer-space with their focus is a bit more than disturbing. Case in point, Manny striking out his first two times up. Manny over running a ball. Manny jogging back to recover the ball before there’s an inside the park home run. If this is a newer episode of Manny being Manny, I’m hoping that this was just a guest appearance.
The Sox over the last 20 games have been decent in the win column. But as many of us know, they haven’t necessarily dominated those wins and when you start playing high caliber teams like the Angels, you’re not going to be so lucky.
The offense did stir back a bit later in the game, but to his credit Colon was very good last night. His fast ball continued to gain velocity as the game progressed, and the Sox were defeated for the 2nd game in arow.

I only watched the first 3 innings, so I missed the implossion. I did see the “high”lights on the sports desk. Colon may be Fat Albert’s younger brother but he has been very good all year. This is his first good start against the Sox in a while. The guys were not the fastball hitting team they usally are lastnight. As far as Manny goes…who knows. Lastnight things were not good, for everyone. Hopefully Wake doesn’t get set back too far after aking a ball off the shin.
