Wells Wants Out
Many reports are abound that Red Sox pitcher David Wells has requested a trade to the West coast to finish his career.
Courtesy The Boston Globe.Wells, who turns 43 May 20 and plans to have knee surgery this winter, has conveyed to the Red Sox a desire to finish his career on the West Coast — he has a home near San Diego — and the Sox have indicated they will try to honor his request.
Apparently, Boston’s not where this ex-Yankee wants to be. Is it really west coast/east coast? I’m sure if The Emperor offered a spot on the rotation he’d take it up.
But all that said, the Red Sox were very fortunate to have Wells in the rotation last season. Without him, they would have never made the play-offs. And, the game he pitched in the Division Series against the White Sox was, perhaps, the only game the Sox had a chance to win. It was certainly because of his performance too.
Wells will most likely be traded, and I pop the suggetion again for perhaps a Dave Roberts inclusion in the trade. Likely? Probably not. Thanks Boomer for the effort, wish the stay could have been longer. But, I know the knee and surgery won’t be fun for anyone.
