Ah, What Do Writers Know
If this year’s award for AL MVP doesn’t indicate that sports writers make horrible judges, what does? A-Rod won the award for Most Valuable Player for the 2005 season in the American League. What a sham? As many have reported, he wasn’t even close to being the New York Yankees most valuable player, how could he be the league’s MVP then?
Don’t get me wrong, A-Rod is one hell of a player. But the most valuable in the league? C’mon. The Yankees always find a way, and A-Rod wasn’t the way. His numbers were strong, but he’s Mr. May, not Mr. October, or even Mr. Down-the-Stretch. He finished the season playing like a dog, he said so himself. But, the writers think A-Rod was more valuable than Mariano Rivera, and David Ortiz. I’d like to see how many games the Yankees would have go on to win had Rivera not been there to close it out. Certainly, the Yanks did well without A-Rod and haven’t won a pennant with him.
I’d say you be the judge, but it doesn’t matter now.
… For Red Sox Nation this Fall, the hits just keep on coming.
