Unfortunately Shaughnessy Still Works For The Globe
After Ortiz lost the vote to A-Rod for MVP of the American League, the Globe’s Dan Shaughnessy has the nerve to write that he likes A-Rod. You’d think after his ridiculous article that certainly had something to do with the Epstein departure, he’d just shut up. The guy seems to be moving himself into a corner as removed from Red Sox Nation as one can get.
Red Sox guy finishes second to Yankee guy in narrow MVP race. It makes us want to holler ‘’bag job.” It just does. Especially when the Red Sox guy is the lovable David Ortiz and the Yankee guy is the smarmy, loathsome poser, Alex Rodriguez (actually, I kind of like A-Rod, but that’s his image here in the hardball Hub of the universe).
Ortiz didn’t get the votes for MVP, A-ROD did. Each one of us knows who the real Most Valuable Player in the American League was this past season, and it’s not the guy ole Dan “kind of likes”. I have to disagree with ole Dan again in that it’s a loss to the Yankees. If you think pathetic voting discourages the Nation or counts for anything sentimental, think again. You’re talking about a franchise ridden with histories of heartache and defeat. A franchise that arose from the ashes of desparation and mounted the greatest comeback in sports history. It took the triumphant moments by David Ortiz to accomplish such heroics, but it was a team that delivered victory.
The loss of the MVP award to A-Rod, who’s a Yankee, isn’t a loss to the Red Sox or the Nation. It’s a loss of the clarity and significance of the award, which perhaps has become a reflection of statistics alone.
Sit down Shaughnessy, and shut up.
