" It may also go without saying that Theo wanted the prospects to get a chance next season rather than target free agents and trades, and Evil Larry may want to bring in talent from outside."

Actually I think it could possibly be the other way around. I posted this on boston.com as an answer to a question about how we are aproaching this weak FA period:

"I want to put this out first. I am not a supporter of Theo or LL. I see them Darth Vader and the Emperor. Vader (Theo) learned from the Emperor (LL) and became very powerfull within the Republic ( RSN). Vader was evil but did have some good in him but...........the Emperor was mostly evil.

Honestly why do you build up a farm system? To either trade them or play them in the near future. If you don't do one or the other there becomes a back log. Player get angry in the minors ( Delmon Young - TB) or MLB player get weary of losing their jobs ( always a possibility, but some may not understand that).

Something tells me that Theo wanted to do a patch job and win now. He's young and risk is easy (or easier) to handle while being young. LL wants to get rid of big contracts and play the young guys, so he can make money at a larger profit. Then once the FA market gets better and with more money in pocket we can re-load in 07'."

I disagree in large part because Theo has been very upfront about "him" not wanting to trade the minor leaguers. I think the risk and the now is very much with the younger players, and the performance of the prospects drafter under Theo's tender, will be more showing of his GM record than the past 3 seasons, I think.

I think George and Cashman get the rights to the Emperor and Vader.
