Rameriz Finally On The Trading Block

I’m not talking about Manny, but Hanley instead. With Theo gone we might see the top prospect in the farm system moved this off-season in an attempt to bolster starting pitching. Do I agree, not at all. Do I ever? Seldom.

Right now, the two teams hottest on Josh Beckett of the Marlins are Texas and Boston. The Rangers would deal third baseman Hank Blalock, but thus far have balked at dealing either of their two prize pitchers, John Danks or Thomas Diamond. From the Red Sox, the Marlins want shortstop Hanley Ramirez and a young pitcher, either Jon Lester or Anibel Sanchez.

I think the move could be detrimental to the system the Sox have in place. Yes, Beckett is very good and young. But the 3 prospects the Sox would lose are very promising and young. Not sure it would be in the best interest to trade away a very talented fielder and some very capable arms for 1 starting pitcher.

Ok, after a bit of re-thinking I’m not absolutely against the trade. If Hanley isn’t really expected to rise up and start before Edgar Renteria’s contract expires, might as well use him as trade bait, and if we can get away with sending only Lester or Sanchez, while picking up Delgado instead of Lowell, I’d say let’s do it. Let’s definitely do it!
