Damon and the Musical Hair
Well, the boss has done it again. No…..not Bruce Springsteen, Georgie boy owner of the Yanks. Damon is reported to have agreed to a $52/4 year contract to play CF for the Yankees. I have heard that Boston offered $50/4 year. So that tells me that Johnny didn’t have RSN in heart like he claimed.
In my opinion, I think Boston’s offer was a little over board. Does anyone think that in four years JD will be playing like a $12.5 mil player? Even in three? This year we’ll need a stop gap, but we have future potential at CF. All can see that the Red Sox are pretty near to ending their era of over priced contracts. It would appear that the winter of 04′/05′ was the last year of that.
This fits JD well. He loves the spot light. CF for the Yankees is a tremendous spot light. He has made waves with this deal. I liked JD, but I would not jump off the deep end for him. While he is one of the premier lead off hitters in the game, his defensive side of the game is in a swift decline. Left centerfield is a long haul in Yankee Stadium. JD has the speed to make up for his bad decisiveness, but his arm strength is less than adequate. In short words….doubles turn into triples.
Well now that we lost all our 15-24 year old female fans because the rock star has left the building, maybe the serious fan has a chance at some seats. Thanks for the years, and get used to seeing deep fly balls, way back over your head……from Papi.

I didn’t want to hear this, but part of me thought it was inevitable. Damon is a great lead-off hitter, one I don’t really want to see start 19 games against the Sox.
I think his decision is clear evidence he never had Red Sox Nation in his heart — he want for a bit more money, not years. And, he went to the Yankees.
It’s a great blow to an end of an era. The cowboys and idiots are gone. This won’t be the most perfect Christmas
Hopefully Beckett, Schilling, and Papelbon have 20 win seasons — how sweet would that be?

Guess Damon’s not shy about his talents:
‘’Our policy with the Yankees is to go out and win, and we’re going to try to bring another championship to them. They haven’t had a championship since Chuck Knoblauch was there when they had a great leadoff hitter so I think the leadoff role has been underappreciated. A good leadoff hitter is tough to find and I think New York just found the best leadoff hitter in the game.”
Johnny Damon said this, can you believe it?
