Crisp Deal Extends Franchise Approach

As we all know by now, Theo wasn’t necessarily heavily involved with the Coco Crisp transaction (ya, right!). But if there’s one thing that’s been quite apparant is the team’s commitment to becoming younger and cheaper. With trades that brought Josh Beckett and Coco Crisp to Boston, the franchise potentially gains two young, affordable, franchise-icon players.

Of course I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself. But this past weekw with every variety of rumors that were surfacing saying the Crisp deal was done-No Dead-no Done, I’ve been on a bit of a roller coaster ride.

First, I didn’t really like to see Damon go, but I knew we had to improve in Center Field in some way. Would Damon be replaced this offseason? I was betting on it. But I also didn’t want to see something stupid happen. And that’s where I have to hand it to the Front Office — they may have given up Marte and Shoppach (2 very good prospects), but they never seemed to panic this offseason despite what reporters and journalists were trying to portray as an organization that had lost all footing since Halloween.

As usual, this offseason has been filled with many dramatic events. The franchise’s approach I hope pays off, and I hope we make the playoffs with what we have on the roster this year because I think if our pitching and defense can perform to their potential, our offense won’t be too shabby either and we might find that we win 95-100 games again :-)
