Wells For Mirabelli?
We already know that David Wells wants to head west to finish his career. We’ve already shipped the Padres Doug Mirabelli to try and be an everyday starting catcher. The Padres went out and got Mike Piazza and he wants to catch nearly full-time. Poor Doug, and poor Wakefield — those two have made an incredible team together over the past couple of years.
Mirabelli is a great backup catcher, no doubt about that. By far one of the best defensive stoppers in the game, and with some pop in his bat every fifth day. Getting him back in a Sox uniform would be great for the team as I think a lot of us fans see Doug as a Red Sock. The problem is, the Padres would have to give up more than just Doug to get Wells who is still a pretty good #2 starting pitcher.
Any ideas?
