What A Sweet Couple Games

From Schilling to Wake, with Timlin and Paps in between — how sweet it’s been. Although it is still very early in the season, it’s quite enjoyable watching the ptichers perform so well. Granted a lot of accolades can be dealt to the defense and a grinding offensive lineup that seems to do just enough to get the job done.

I will say, with today’s game, the most encouraging moment was watching Foulke pitch a flawless 8th inning. It looked like Foulke of old. A 88-89 mph pin-point control fast ball, mixed with a 75-77 mph change up. He recorded a couple of strike-outs in the inning, but one appearance is far from determining his future success. However, if he continues to pitch like he did today, whether he or Papelbon is the closer, it again makes the bullpen deeper.

Despite the lack of offensive bashing that became “Red Sox - Ball”, I have enjoyed the dueling and competition that’s been very apparent in the first 6 games of the season. Watching games progress where both the pitching and the defense have to be locked in until the offense can get something going makes for a suspenseful game…. I love it!

Up next Beckett makes his second start, and debut at Fenway. Hopefully it doesn’t snow.
