What We Learned Today…
Boomer was battered. Wily Mo connected, need I say more. A-Gonz performed magic and Coco gave up free agency — a year of it anyway.
The game was fairly disastrous. It was David Wells first start, so I guess one can’t put too much emphasis or speculation into the season based on tonight’s performance. The same would hold true of Wily Mo Pena sending a rocket to center-field. It was his first home run as a Red Sox player and he crushed it… I guess when he does connect, he hits it a ton.
The infield defense was impressive again, as the middle team of Alex Gonzalez and Mark Loretta had some fine diggs early on.
But I guess perhaps the best thing learned today was that Coco Crisp signed a 3-year extension with a 4th year option. That means Coco is a BoSox member until potentially 2010. He basically gave up his first free agent year in a club option in the contract for 2010 and the club is saving some mucho dollars on this deal. Hmmmm, even if the Sox had gotten Damon at $40mm/4-years, would it even compare?
