A Bit Superstitous

While the Sox were tearing the National League up, I wasn’t blogging much. I was avoiding watching the first half of the first inning. Why? Because they were winning. Now? Well, I can watch the games again including the first inning and I can get back to blogging.

So since Shawn did his predictions, I’ll take a more moderate approach and look at the Sox.

Clement has to go. Will he be moved? It’s doubtful this year unless the Sox eat a huge chunk of his salary. But, perhaps his woes on the DL will be extended terribly long, long enough to keep him out of the rotation and find a better 5th start (Arroyo anyone??? Ya, right).

David Wells appears to be done for the season, if not his career.

Johnson… Enough said. Move him.

The minor leaguers, with the exception of Lester, to this point haven’t shown consistency on the big stage, so I’d say we need to look for a trade. The problem is the packaging. We have some good prospects, but maybe we shouldn’t move them. Are there any teams interested in Clement, even if we paid the salary? I have no idea. We were willing to eat Renteria’s salary, so I’m guessing that maybe nobody wants Clement. I guess Theo will have to be a bit more creative than he’s been, especially in 2005 with little trade movement that had impact, and the free agent signings he made that year were just plain pitiful (i.e. Renteria/Clement). But I’m sure he knows that anyway.

We need a starting pitcher and so does everyone else. We have prospects but how much are we ok with moving them? And, ultimately how valuable are they… You know if we want Zito, should he actually be moved, it’ll take probably the whole farm system with Beane.
